An account of the Remount Service, that provided horses for the British Army and in particular its Depot just outside Romsey, Hampshire. The book deals with the acquisition and training of horses for service in the First World War at Romsey. The Depot only lasted from 1914 to 1920 but during that time dealt with thousands of horses and mules. The camp has now completely disappeared, but parts of its structure provide hardcore for the drainage of Romsey’s War Memorial Park. To commemorate the Remount Depot and the animals that it trained, a statue of a war horse and his rider has been erected in the park and this second edition of the book, describes how the commission and erection of the statue came about
