 Hampshire Archives and Local Studies 

Located in Winchester. This is the Record Office for the County and a major repository of old deeds, maps, documents and pictures. They also have a fine collection of books on local history.

 Hampshire Archive Trust 

The Hampshire Archives Trust supports the preservation and conservation of Hampshire related archives, and promotes them for the benefit of the public and to advance wider knowledge and understanding of archives.

 Nostalgia at Woodley Net 

This website is run by local man, Chris Levy, and contains a wealth of news, photographs and videos regarding people and places around Romsey, together with knowledgeable comments.  Website: www.woodleynet.co.uk 

 

 Romsey Abbey 

A Fine Norman church built by nuns and bought by the town for £100. Apart from a splendid building its bookstall has information about the history of this church.

 King John's House and Heritage Centre 

This is Romsey's museum in Church Street where there are displays relevant to the town's history. They also arrange talks about Romsey and its surrounds.

 Romsey Library 

Located in Station Road, Romsey. They have a fine collection of books about the area, some for loan and some for reference.

 Britain from Above 

This nationally run website is gradually making available all 1.2 million aerial photographs taken by Aerofilms between 1919 and 1953. They are adding to what is online all the time and these include some of Romsey.

This nationally run website has over 400,000 aerial photographs. Some are taken by Aerofilms between 1919 and 1953 and others are taken up to the present day. They are adding to what is online all the time and these include some of Romsey.

 National Library of Scotland 

This website allows free access to old larger scale Ordnance Survey maps covering Scotland and 1:10560 maps of England and Wales.

 University of Winchester 

The Martial Rose Library at the University of Winchester has an extensive collection of publications covering many aspects of local history and archaeology. Visitors are welcome to view the reference library.

 University of Southampton 

The Special Collections and Archives held by the University of Southampton are in the Hartley Library. They include the Broadlands Archive which is essential to the study of Romsey. The library also holds a fine collection of books about Hampshire and of source books for local history. Visitors are welcome, but must book in advance.

 Romsey Town Council 

Located in the Town Hall at 1 Market Place. This is the headquarters of the Town Council. They have a fine collection of pictures and other mementos of the town's history on the walls of rooms within the building.

 Test Valley Borough Council 

Their headquarters is in Andover but a 'drop in' office is located in Church Street, Romsey. Their planning records are important for house histories and their legal department holds deeds of properties that have been publicly owned.

As in Chambers of Commerce throughout the world, this is a useful centre to start your search for local business information.
