Our Story

Our Workshops
We hold weekly 'Workshops' in the basement of Romsey Town Hall, The Market Place.
Mondays (except Bank Holidays) Drop in between 10am - noon

If you want to know more about the history of Romsey in general or wish to find out more about your family or house in the area, then you are welcome to visit us there during one of our workshop sessions. These are informal drop-in sessions during which you can look at our archives and/or discuss your interests.
Members regularly work on our large collection of photographs, old documents, leases and deeds relating to the Romsey area and Broadlands estate which they then scan, transcribe and catalogue. Members also pursue research into local family/village history and may undertake work on their own projects and/or a number of RLHS 'driven' projects.
We are always interested in obtaining old photographs of Romsey. We often borrow such photographs, scan them, and then return the originals to their owners - so please bring yours in.

Our Meetings and Events
We undertake a programme of meetings throughout the year where members and invited guest speakers give talks covering a wide range of topics, relating to both local history and history in general.
We also hold a number of events and seminars relating to the various projects that the Society may be engaged on from time to time.
A number of visits are also arranged to places of historic interest including those to local houses and gardens that have a connection with Romsey and its surrounds.
Our Walks and Talks
We provide guides who will lead walks in the area.
We are also able to provide speakers covering topics of local history to audiences of all ages.
Educational talks are also given to schools.

Our Publications
We have produced a number of books and journals covering historical topics relating to Romsey and the surrounding district and these can be purchased at our weekly workshops at the Town Hall, at our meetings or at the Tourist Information Office in Church Street. Alternatively they can be purchased online from our bookstore under 'Our Publications'.
Our Aims
To discover, research, record and publicise historical and archæological material relevant to Romsey's past, and to that of the Lower Test Valley and nearby places.
To collect, conserve, store, and periodically exhibit documents, photographs and artefacts. To share our knowledge of Romsey and its area through talks, conferences and by publishing books and journals.
